Adirondack Regional Technology Center (ARTC) TRAID Project

The Adirondack Regional Technology Center operates a Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (TRAID) Program with grant provided by New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health’s (DOH) Early Intervention Program (EIP), and the NYS DOH Money Follows the Person (MFP) Program.

The ARTC is one of twelve Regional TRAID Centers (RTC’s) operating within the State of New York. The goal of the program is to improve access to, and acquisition of, assistive technology devices and services for persons with disabilities of all ages and all disabilities within Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and St. Lawrence Counties.

Our services seek to enable persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities to choose, acquire, and use appropriate assistive technology that advances their individual interests and independent functioning.

The core functions of the TRAID Program include assistive device re-utilization, device demonstration, device loans, and information dissemination and training. These services are made available under the Assistive Technology Act (P.L. 108-364), Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and the Administration on Community Living (ACL).

Community Partners make it possible to ensure access to Assistive Technology throughout the region with AT lending closets located in Plattsburgh and Malone. An assistive device is any item, product or piece of equipment that can be used to maintain or improve the functional abilities of individuals with disabilities. It can be something as simple as a modified toothbrush handle or as complex as a voice-activated computer system.

ARTC serves Clinton, Franklin, Essex and St. Lawrence Counties of New York. There are 12 NYS TRAID Centers and an ARTC Assistive Equipment Lending Program
