Affirmative Consent Topic of Gender and Women's Studies Forum

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Gender and Women’s Studies Program will host “Until it Happens to You,” a discussion on affirmative consent Thursday, Nov. 5 at 12:30 p.m. in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center.
Panel members on hand to discuss the issue include attorney Susan Patnode; Butterfly Blaise, campus Title IX coordinator and adjunct lecturer; Bryan Hartman, vice president of Student Affairs; Larry Allen student conduct director; representatives from University Police and the inter-sorority and inter-fraternity councils. A Q&A session will follow.

'Oklahoma!' Coming to Hartman Theatre Stage Nov. 5-8

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh theater and music departments will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” Thursday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 8 in Hartman Theatre.
The classic musical tells the tale of handsome cowboy Curly, who woos the winsome farm girl, Laurey, while crude farmhand Jud lurks in the darkness as he tries to claim Laurey’s hand for himself. The company of students perform some of the most memorable music from the American Broadway songbook, including “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning,” “Surrey with the Fringe On Top,” “Everything’s Up to Date in Kansas City,” and, of course, “Oklahoma!”
Gallery Concert Series Continues Friday, Oct. 30 at SUNY Plattsburgh

Saranac Review Literary Journal Feted as it Enters Second Decade

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of English will host a launch party for its annual literary journal, The Saranac Review, Friday, Oct. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the Strand Center for the Arts, 23 Brinkerhoff St., Plattsburgh.
The launch welcomes the 11th issue, which features fiction, non-fiction and poetry writers from this region and various parts of the world, including Canada, said Dr. Jose Torres, executive editor and professor English.
'Shine a Light on Domestic Violence' Brings Issue to Forefront Oct. 19-23

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2015) — SUNY Plattsburgh will once again participate in the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence’s “Shine a Light on Domestic Violence” initiative Oct. 19-23.
Purple lights will illuminate Hawkins Hall throughout the week as part of the SUNY-wide effort to increase awareness about the dangers and prevalence of domestic violence. The SUNY Plaza in Albany will also be lighted with purple lights as directed by Chancellor Nancy Zimpher.

Pianist and SUNY Plattsburgh Associate Professor of Music Karen Becker will perform with special guests Sonja Thompson on piano, Eric Grossman on violin and Lawrence Zoering on cello.
Pockets of Play to Celebrate Saranac River Trail

PLATTSBURGH (Oct. 14, 2015) — Hula-hooping, kickball, dance and hopscotch are just a few of the activities that will take place along the Saranac River Trail 10 a.m.- noon Saturday, Oct. 24, when SUNY Plattsburgh public relations students host Pockets of Play, behind Memorial Hall on the college campus.
The free activities are part of a wellness initiative with the Clinton County Health Department.
Cardinal Hall of Fame Adds Five Members

Family, friends, past teammates and SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling were among those paying tribute to the honored guests at the event, on Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms of the Angell College Center on campus.
