Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity Ordered to Cease All Operations
07:02am EST, 13 Dec 2013
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Dec. 13, 2013) – SUNY Plattsburgh has officially withdrawn recognition of the Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity.
The move was made Thursday after campus judicial proceedings found the fraternity responsible for two violations of the campus code of conduct: disorderly conduct and a failure to comply with sanctions stemming from an earlier incident.
All official fraternal activities had been ordered suspended as of Nov. 26, while Plattsburgh City Police conducted an investigation. Now permission for the group to function and all campus privileges have been completely revoked.
The former members will be subject to college disciplinary action should the fraternity continue to function openly or in secret. As a result, Fraternity and Sorority Life and University Police at SUNY Plattsburgh are asking students and the public to report any evidence of that occurring. Reports may be made to University Police at 518-564-2022.
“Our fraternities are meant to be groups that build student potential through friendship, leadership, scholarship and service,” said Dean of Students Stephen Matthews. “This group has violated those standards, and that hurts everyone.”
Campus investigations are still underway. Pending their results, charges may be brought against individuals.
