Foreign Language Requirement Waiver

Requirements for Waiver

International students at SUNY Plattsburgh are eligible for the foreign language waiver if they satisfy any of the following conditions:

1. The language of instruction during secondary school was their native language
2. They studied their native language until the end of secondary school (lower secondary school or upper secondary school) as evidenced by a nationally standardized examination in the student's country of residence
   
3. They completed standard-level IB examination in a foreign language (except "ab initio"). Students completing a higher-level IB examination also qualify for the waiver.

If a student has studied another foreign language up to graduation (3 yrs minimum) we will recommend taking a foreign language placement test during orientation.
