Elizabeth McAleer, Class of 2009

• B.A. in Public Relations/Organizational Development

Elizabeth graduated magna cum laude with a degree in public relations and, during her time on campus, served as a public relations intern for the Office of Institutional Advancement.

I wouldn’t have spent my college years anywhere else

“I left Plattsburgh with an education, but, after only a few months out of the classroom, I realize that that is not the main thing I will take away from my time there. The atmosphere of the campus and community are one of a kind. From my first day there I was continually put in situations I wouldn't have expected, but the people I was with made it fun and exciting. Plattsburgh is truly unlike any other place, and I wouldn't want to have spent my college years anywhere else.”

A professor who made a difference

“Dr. Slater's service learning classes were where I first realized that I was in the right major. I thrived in the collaborative atmosphere of the class and gained self-confidence in myself and my work. He never stopped challenging us and our ideas, and, in that sense, he really gave the class a real-world feel. The further I progress in my career, the more I believe I'll come to appreciate the opportunities those classes provided.”

Elizabeth’s advice to new students

“For new students, my advice is to investigate Plattsburgh, the college and the town. It provides a lot of opportunities that I didn't learn about until late into my time there. If I were to start back at my freshman year again, I wouldn't say I would do things differently because my experience was unforgettable, but I would have kept myself open to do even more.”

Class of 1999 Graduate stars in role of Executive Producer in the movie "Die Mommie Die"

Lonnie Dubrofsky, class of '99, is touring the country promoting his soon to be released movie "Die Mommie Die" in which he worked as Executive Producer along with Anthony Edwards. The suspenseful comedy is scheduled to open in 12 U.S. cities October 31. The movie stars Charles Busch (who also wrote the screenplay), Jason Priestly, Natasha Lyonne, and Philip Baker Hall. "Die Mommie Die" has been shown at the famed Sundance Film Festival and the Montreal International Film Festival.

After graduating from Plattsburgh, Dubrofsky has worked in Los Angeles on several films and television shows, most notably, Zoolander and ER. Dubrofsky received the College's "Alumnus Off to a Good Start Award" during Homecoming Weekend 2003.
