How to Read a CAPP Report

The CAPP Report

"CAPP" is an acronym for "Curriculum Advising and Program Planning" Report. Your CAPP report is probably the most important tool for monitoring your academic progress, selecting courses for future semesters, and understanding all of your degree requirements.

Upon your admission to Plattsburgh State, both freshmen and transfers receive their first CAPP Report. As you progress in your SUNY Plattsburgh education, your CAPP is continuously updated to reflect any change to your academic record (e.g., grades earned, requirements fulfilled, changes in your major/minor).

The CAPP Report includes important information, such as:

  • Your basic academic information (e.g., name, major, advisor's name, BannerID number)
  • Your "major requirements"
  • Your "General Education requirements"
  • Overall "College degree requirements" (e.g., your cumulative GPA, major GPA, number of credits earned)
  • All courses awarded as transfer/AP credit from prior institutions (if any)

Your CAPP Report will show arrows (-->) next to all requirements that still need to be completed. It is important to attend to CAPP items with arrows when you are selecting courses for the next semester. It is also important that you view and/or print your CAPP report each semester. Though you will have assistance from your academic advisor, it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure you have completed ALL requirements for your degree.

CAPP Report Guide

To help you understand your CAPP report, the College created a "CAPP Users Guide" for students following the General Education 4 (GE4) Program. The CAPP Guide explains how to interpret all the sections, codes, requirements, and other notations that appear on the CAPP report.
