Using Your SUNY Plattsburgh NetID and Password

Your NetID is a name or username that uniquely identifies you. It is used in combination with a password, which should be known only to you, to gain access to key services. The NetID used to be called your "LDAP" account or your "domain" account.

Login Information and Instructions

For All New Users (Students, Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers)

  • NetID. Your NetID is a combination of the first letter of your first name plus the first four letters of your last name, followed by three digits. The three digits are based on the number of users who have a NetID that starts with the same first five letters. For example, Jane Smith maybe assigned the NetID JSMIT001 while Joe Smithers may be JSMIT002 and so on. If you do not know your NetID, call the Helpdesk at 564-4433 or check the Campus Directory or use this lookup form.  Your NetID is the first part of your e-mail address.
  • Password. To increase our account security your password by default is set to an encrypted string of non-readable characters.  Therefore, you MUST SET A PASSWORD before you are allowed to login services utilizing the NetID.  To set a password you will need to know your campus NetID and be able to answer two security questions about yourself. Please go to https://password.plattsburgh.edu/selfsvc to set your password. If you can't reset your password by using the form, please call the Helpdesk at 518-564-4433 and we will assist you. We strongly encourage you to change your password at least once every 6 months.

For Students/Alumni who entered before Fall 2006

  • NetID. Your NetID is a combination of the first four letters of your last name, followed by a random set of digits. It should be the same as the NetID (username) you used for e-mail last semester. If you cannot remember your NetID, call the Helpdesk at 564-4433 or check the Campus Directory or use this lookup form.  Your NetID is the first part of your e-mail address.
  • Password. Your password password is encrypted in our systems. If you forgot your password, we cannot look it up for you.  You can reset the password yourself by going to https://password.plattsburgh.edu/selfsvc. If you can't reset your password by using the form, please call the Helpdesk at 518-564-4433 and we will assist you. We strongly encourage you to change your password at least once every 6 months.

For Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers who joined the campus before Fall 2006

  • NetID.  Your NetID is a combination of the first six letters of your last name, followed the first letter of your first name and first letter of your middle name (if you have one). It should be the same as the NetID you used for e-mail last semester. If you do not know your NetID, call the Helpdesk at 564-4433 or check the Campus Directory or use this lookup form.  Your NetID is the first part of your e-mail address.
  • Password.  Your password password is encrypted in our systems.
