Career/Job Search Workshops

The Career Development Center offers FREE workshops every semester that have been found to be of interest to college students. All workshops include both traditional and electronic/web-based approaches. All workshops will be held in the Angell College Center (ACC) and will last an hour or less. Presentations on alternative topics and alternative times can be arranged upon request.

Creating Resumes & Cover Letters

This workshop will discuss numerous aspects of resumes including purposes, content, various formats, design, and language. Tips on formatting and sending an electronic resume will be covered. Format and writing style of cover letters will be presented. Sending a cover letter electronically will also be discussed.

Delivering a Dynamic Interview

Learn what to do before your interview and how to prepare for various types of interviews. This workshop is appropriate for any interview including internship, full-time job, and/or graduate school. Obtain tips on what you should research and find out about an organization before interviewing. Learn about behavioral interviewing techniques. Find out what are the most typically asked questions including handling illegal and unusual questions. Interviewing is an interactive process so you will get ideas of what types of questions you can ask the interviewer. Find out a little about body language and tips on what to wear.

Applying to Graduate Schools

When is the best time to go to graduate school? It may depend on your personal goals and the field you are pursuing. Find out about the general timetable. Find out more about the application process including writing admissions essays/letters of intent. Learn what affects admissions decisions. Preparing for graduate entrance exams will be discussed. Find out about options for financing your graduate education including graduate, teaching, and research assistantships.

Organizing an Effective Job Search

Whether you are looking for an internship, a part-time job, a summer job, or a full-time opportunity, this workshop will teach you the basic steps in finding that perfect experience. Networking, salary negotiation, and relocating will be discussed. Obtain targeted on-line resources to search for a job by field or geographic location.

Identifying Career Interests

Instead of randomly choosing a major or career, find out more about matching your interests and personality with an exciting and appropriate choice for you. Find out resources that answer the question, "What can I do with a major in…?" This workshop will consist of interactive activities to introduce you to the career planning process.

Preparing for a Career Fair
