Center for the Study of Canada - Christopher Kirkey, Ph.D.

Director

Christopher Kirkey is Director of the Center for the Study of Canada at State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, where he holds a concurrent position as full professor of political science. He also holds an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, and formerly served as Associate Professor of Political Science and Canadian Studies at Bridgewater State College. He holds a B.A. Honours and Master of Arts (Queen’s University) a Ph.D. in Politics from Brandeis University, serves on the editorial boards of Canadian Foreign Policy and the American Review of Canadian Studies, and served as Mine Action Scholar-in-Residence at the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

A scholar of comparative foreign policy and international relations theory, Kirkey's works include the co-edited book (with Stéphan Gervais and Jarrett Rudy) Quebec Questions: Quebec Studies in the 21st Century, (Toronto: Oxford University Press, 2010), the co-edited special issue (with Kenneth Holland) “Canada’s Commitment to Afghanistan” of the American Review of Canadian Studies (Vol.40 No.2 June 2010), and a variety of articles in the International Journal of Canadian Studies, the Journal of Canadian Studies, the American Review of Canadian Studies and Armed Forces & Society. He is currently working on four projects: a French language edition of Quebec Questions (Université de Montréal Press); a co-edited special issue (with Gervais and Rudy) of Quebec Studies showcasing recent scholarship on Quebec; a co-edited special issue (with André Senécal) of the American Review of Canadian Studies titled “New Voices on Canada” featuring the scholarship of U.S.-based advanced doctoral candidates and junior professors working on Canada; and, a co-edited special journal issue and related book volume (with Michael Hawes) on Canadian foreign policy in a unipolar world.
