In addition to leading a PSC academic division, Peter continues to study ancient forest landscapes in central Ontario and collaborates with local and provincial conservation NGO's to protect these special ecosystems. When he started his work in 1988, there were only 5,000 hectares of protected old-growth red and eastern white pine forest, now more than 100,000 ha are protected. His current research focus is the design and establishment of wildland/conservation corridors.
