SUNY Plattsburgh to Host Business Plan Competition
05:34pm EST, 3 Mar 2014
PLATTSBURGH (March 3, 2014) — SUNY Plattsburgh will host the North Country Regional Business Plan Competition Saturday, March 29, at Au Sable Hall, the college’s new business and computer science building.
According to Dr. Nancy Church, chair of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, undergraduate and graduate students from any accredited North Country college or university are eligible for the competition, which requires students to submit business plans to investors and business people attending the event.
Plans can be created in one of six categories: biotechnology and health care; energy and sustainability; information technology and software; nanotechnology and advanced technology; products and services; and social entrepreneurship and nonprofit. Students are limited to a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation with five minutes for follow-up questions from the judges.
Winners of this region’s business plan competition advance to the New York State Business Plan Competition April 25 in Albany.
“Competing in a business plan competition helps student entrepreneurs crystallize their business concepts, improve their pitching skills and gain confidence interacting with potential investors,” Church said.
The college and Clarkson University are in the second year of a three-year partnership to co-host the competition. Established in 2010, the New York Business Plan competition has awarded more than $300,000 in cash and prizes to participants.
Competition organizers are looking for business people with entrepreneurial experience, venture capitalists, angel investors or other financial experts to serve as judges.
Students can register for the competition online at www.clarkson.edu/bplan by March 17. For information on becoming a judge, contact Church at 518-564-4169 or email@example.com.
