SUNY Plattsburgh Hosts Concert to Kick Off Earth Week 2013
03:25pm EDT, 5 Apr 2013
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 5, 2013) — SUNY Plattsburgh’s Environmental Action Committee has teamed up with other clubs and departments to host a variety of events in honor of Earth Week April 22-28.
The week will kick off Sunday, April 22, with the college’s inaugural eco-movement concert featuring the Blind Owl Band, the Standard Deviants and SUNY Plattsburgh's Uke-a-Dooks club. The Environmental Action Committee, Earth and Environmental Science Club, Wildlife Club, Outing Club, Food Group and SNAPS will also give presentations.
Events to follow include a community bike ride, an edible plants walk led by Professor Michael Burgess and a discussion by Dr. Eric Leibensperger, professor of earth and environmental science, about the impact super storms have had on climate change.
Meanwhile, the Wildlife Club will sponsor a BioBlitz — an all-out effort to identify as many species as possible in a 24-hour period — Sunday, April 28. Community members are encouraged to participate and can learn more at http://bit.ly/BioBlitz2013.
Earth Week organizers began planning for these events last May with a goal of spreading awareness through them.
“My hope is to show people that this is a large movement both nationally and internationally, and this is a small part of it,” said Karyn Ehmann, president of the Environmental Action Committee. “We’re doing everything we can to help.”
