Heymann Named to All-Academic List by USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Mike Heymann, a national qualifier for the Plattsburgh State track and field team in both indoor and outdoor track during the 2008-09 school year, has been named to the NCAA Division III Men's All-Academic Track and Field Team by the United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Heymann provisionally qualified and earned a spot at the indoor national championships in the 5,000-meter run during the indoor season, and automatically qualified for the outdoor meet in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races. He placed ninth at the indoor championships, and 11th in the 5,000m and 10th in the 10,000m at the outdoor meet, just missing All-American honors (given to the top-eight) at both meets.
One of three State University of New York track athletes to make the cut, Heymann was joined by Joshua Henry of Cortland and Sean Daly from Oneonta to represent the SUNYAC on the list.

Heymann and Schaffhouser Head to National Meet
Indianapolis, Ind. - Plattsburgh State sophomore distance runner Mike Heymann already knew that he would be traveling to Marietta, Ohio May 21-23 to compete in the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field Championships, having automatically qualified earlier in the season in the men's 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs, but the NCAA announced Sunday that he will also be joined by teammate Jenny Schaffhouser. Schaffhouser provisionally qualified for the women's 10,000m at the Penn Relays on April 24 and her time of 36:34.21 proved good enough at the end of the regular season to secure her a place at the national meet.
Heymann hit his qualifying mark for the 5,000m at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic and qualified for the event in the 10,000m at the Penn Relays. His 5,000m time of 14:24.55 currently stands at fifth in the nation in Division III, as does his time of 30:15.79 in the 10,000m--both marks set new school records. Heymann was also named First Team All-State University of New York Athletic Conference for his accomplishments this outdoor season.
"For Mike, we have been preparing for this weekend since after cross country. We went into the track season having the ultimate goal of running the 10,000m at the NCAA [Division III] Indoor Championships, with the 5,000m being a secondary goal," commented Plattsburgh head coach John Lynch. "Mike's massive improvement in the 5,000m is a bonus. After taking ninth in the event at the NCAA [Division III] Indoor Championships I could see even more motivation in him and I think that was clear in his two school record races over 10,000m and 5,000m this year. Mike is going into this meet rested and ready to go in both events."
Schaffhouser is currently 19th in the 10,000m at the Division III level. She received Second Team All-SUNYAC honors after
finishing the SUNYAC Championships in second in the 5,000m run in a time of 18:03.76.
"This has been the goal since her break through race in cross country. We kind of trained through indoor and had hoped to get in a race at Penn Relays, but she was stuck in between two packs--running 25 laps by herself there--so her 10,000m qualifying time was a little slower than we had hoped. We were biting our nails for a month afterward watching runner after runner run faster times," Lynch admitted. "I think she slipped from 10th to 19th in that month. What she has going for her now, is that she has not run a 10,000m in a month and these other girls have--she is well rested and should take a shot at beating a bunch of girls ranked in front of her."
This will be Schaffhouser's first outdoor national championship appearance, prompting Lynch to add: "You can never count Jenny out; she is a championship-level racer. She has worked tirelessly this year to improve and make nationals--including improving more than two minutes from last year to make it--and I couldn't be happier for her."

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Johnathan Cochran has been named assistant cross country and track&field coach at Plattsburgh State.
"I am very excited to have John join our staff. He is well educated in coaching all of the events in our sport, yet has a particular knack in coaching the field events," commented Cardinal head coach John Lynch. "I am also enthusiastic about the knowledge he will bring to our strength and conditioning program from his time spent earning his masters degree at Virginia Tech. Dobson is a three-time USTFCA All-America Scholar
NEW ORLEANS - Plattsburgh State men's sprinter Jeff Dobson has earned scholar all-America accolades from the U.S. Track & Field Coaches Association for the third straight season, it was announced this week. Dobson brings to five the number of similar citations given to the Cardinals this season, joining fellow seniors Allison Busby, Alyssa Recny and Toni Wiszowaty and the rest of the Plattsburgh women's team. To qualify as an individual for this award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average and an NCAA Championships-qualifying standard in their event during the in-/outdoor season.
A senior from Holtsville, N.Y. (Sachem High School), Dobson carried a 3.45 GPA as a criminal justice major and recorded a provisional-qualifying mark in the 400-meter dash to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. A 5-time All-SUNYAC performer, including first team honors this spring as the conference 400m outdoor champion, he also ran the anchor leg for the 4x400 outdoor relay that won four straight State University of New York Athletic Conference crowns during his career.
Dobson's career achievements also included three Academic All-SUNYAC and Commissioner's List certificates and three school records. In the classroom, he was named to the Dean's List three times and inducted into Alpha Delta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. Civic or extra-curricular activities included leaf-raking for senior citizens, fundraiser for Cardinals Walk with Special Olympians, Criminal Justice Club and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member.
Coach's Corner
The Plattsburgh State coaching staff creates a family atmosphere for the track and field student-athlete. The environment that we create as coaches (which includes a diverse group of individuals) allows for a learning experience to happen inside and outside the classroom.
While enduring three seasons which span the entire school year it is important to establish a discipline with the student-athletes. This discipline becomes reflective in their overall academic and competitive outcomes. We expect high standards to be met by the student-athletes. These standards are based on consistent evaluation on the track, field, and in the classroom. Within this framework we also promote the overall enjoyment of the collegiate athletics experience.

The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team has a rich history of All-Americans and National Championship performances.
