Stephanie Zweig, Interim Head Coach

Stephanie Zweig steps in as the interim head coach for the Plattsburgh State softball season for the 2009-10 school year following the departure of former head coach Sean Cotter, who resigned after 10 years at the helm. Cotter is now the head coach at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
“In light of Sean leaving just before the start of the school year, we have been given very little time to find a replacement. However, we are very lucky and fortunate to have a former Plattsburgh standout and assistant coach of Stephanie’s caliber to be able to name as our interim head coach,” athletic director Bruce Delventhal commented.
A former standout in the circle for the Cardinals, Zweig twice earned SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year and All-Northeast Region honors and was a three-time Jewish Sports Review All-American. Zweig also earned the SUNYAC Award of Valor and NFCA Third Team All-American status as a sophomore.
Zweig ranks ninth all-time in NCAA Division III with 12 saves during her tenure on the mound and dominates a number of categories in Plattsburgh’s record book as well. She owns school records for appearances in a season (38) and career (126), single-season earned run average (1.04), career saves (12), and career winning percentage (.757). Zweig is also tied for first for single-season shutouts with eight.
“The Plattsburgh State softball program has been a big part of my life for five years now. I could not be more honored to be given this position. I look forward to building upon an already stellar program and am thrilled to be able to continue the traditions established during coach Cotter’s tenure,” Zweig said.
Having been afflicted with brachial plexus at a young age, Zweig has worked as a motivational speaker and ran the sports clinic for the United Brachial Plexus Network conferences in Lake George and Washington, D.C. She also spoke at a clinic for physically and mentally disabled people at the College of Staten Island. At these clinics, Zweig spoke to children with disabilities and their parents about perseverence in athletics and life.
Zweig graduated from Plattsburgh in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in childhood education and a minor in coaching. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in literacy in education.
