Plattsburgh State Women's Soccer

About the Cardinals Program
The women's soccer program has built a tremendous tradition of success on the field and in the classroom since its beginnings in 1979.
The Cardinals have competed in postseason tournaments in 22 of their 30 seasons of existence, registered 25 winning seasons and compiled a 332-180-32 record for a .647 winning percentage all-time.
Since the arrival of coach Karen Waterbury in 1990, the team has registered over two decades of dominance on the field and has set an even higher benchmark for success with,
-
Four postseason tournament championships- SUNYAC (1994 & 1998), ECAC (1998) and NYSWCAA (1996
-
17 postseason appearances- NCAA , ECAC (6), SUNYAC (7) and NYSWCAA (7)
-
A 235-127-23 record (.640) ranks her among the winningest top-20 active coaches in the nation
The team competes in one of the top athletic conferences in the nation, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC ), and the conference champion gains an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Coach Karen Waterbury:
"Our team continues to build upon its successes and, simply put, we have a great group of hardworking and talented young ladies that bring a real welcoming attitude to the program," commented Waterbury. "Having the team average above a 3.0 GPA each semester last year shows how motivated of a group they are, as well as their top-rankings nationally for goals-against and scoring offense last season."
For Waterbury, what helps set the Plattsburgh State program apart from its competition is,
- 21 NSCAA Regional All-Americans, 82 All-SUNYAC honorees, six CoSIDA Academic All-District players, one SUNYAC Player of the Year, and three SUNYAC Rookie of the Year winners
- International trips to Scotland & Brazil, and annual international exhibitions in Montreal
- New (2004) $1.25 million lighted soccer stadium
- Member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), one of the top NCAA Division III conferences in the nation
- The Cardinals regularly stack their non-conference schedule with top-tier competition and have proven time and again that they are more than able to step up to the challenge
