What is great or unique about your major?  My major, as well as the Communications Department, in general, allows us to be very hands-on with everything we do. As a junior, I feel well prepared for the “real world” and feel that Plattsburgh has made me feel that way. I enjoy public speaking, which plays a large part in my field, and I enjoy how creative we get to be in our presentation of our work.
Who is your favorite professor and why?  Dr. Kirsten Isgro is a fantastic professor. She makes everyone of her classes very different and constantly changes what is done in class to always keep us going and keep our interest, as well as really taking student feedback into consideration.

Eric BranEric Bran

Hometown: Flushing, NY
Major: Mathematics

Year: Sophomore
What is great or unique about your major? I like my major because it brings a sense of pride. In other majors, it is easy to get something wrong and feel badly about it. In Mathematics, I feel that it is easy to get something wrong and be okay with it. Mathematics is a major that people learn by making mistakes and practicing.
Who is your favorite professor and why? Professor Bodenrader. He's a very approachable man with a lot of knowledge. He is easy to understand and explains topics thoroughly.

Morgan Brooks Morgan Brooks

Hometown: Clifton Park, NY
Major: Double B.S. in Accounting & Business
Year: Senior
Campus Activities: I am a member of the Honors Council (governing body of the Honors Program), a tour guide/panel member/student host/peer recruiter for the Admissions Office, a tutor at the Learning Center, and an Accounting Lab Aide for the School of Business and Economics.
What is great or unique about your major? Accounting is one of the only fields that sees a rise in available jobs during an economic crisis; most of our accounting students are getting pretty speedy job placement in the field of their choice. Also, because the School of Business and Economics is internationally accredited by the AACSB in both Accountancy and Business, we business students graduate with international marketability—an absolute must in such a global economy. Lastly, we have some of the best professors in the Accounting Department—professionals in their discipline - CPAs, PhDs, and accomplished, published individuals.
Who is your favorite professor and why? Definitely a tie. For general coolness, Dr. Ed Lusk from the Accounting Department wins.  Ed is a seasoned professional, but not afraid to relax. He plays German heavy metal or Christina Aguilera as we’re walking into his class.  He rides a bicycle to work in the winter with sandals on.  He is truly one of the most interesting, knowledgeable, and challenging professors I have ever come into contact with. For most helpful, the award goes to Dr. Mohamed Gaber, also of the Accounting Department.  Dr. Gaber is my academic advisor. As such, one of his jobs is to both mentor and challenge me with course choices, internship opportunities, and is now helping me with my permenant job placement upon graduation.  I would not have been able to have excelled at the level which I have without his guidance and support.

Meg Griswold Meg Griswold

Hometown: Fulton, NY
Major: English Adolescence Education
Minor: Journalism and Gender and Women's Studies
Year: Junior
Campus Activities: Resident Assistant, OAB(Organizational Affairs Board), Honors Program, Women's Rugby
What is great or unique about your major? The program here at SUNY Plattsburgh for Adolescence Education is great! Since I want to be an English teacher, I will actually receive my Bachelor’s Degree in English. It’s a five-year program, so my fifth year is considered my Graduate year, where I will be receiving my Master’s Degree in Education. The reason it’s so great that you actually major in your area of study instead of strictly education is because if once I graduate, and decide that I no longer want to be a teacher, I’ll still have my full degree in English.
Who is your favorite professor and why?
I’ve had so many great professors here that it’s very hard to name just one! All of the professors that I’ve had from the English Department are phenomenal. A few include Prof. Mark Holden, Dr. Chris Leise, and Dr. Elaine Ostry. My favorite professor from the Journalism department is Dr. Ronald Davis, and my favorite professor from the Education Department so far has been Mark Beatham. It was impossible to name just one because all of them have been so helpful in various different ways!

Who is your favorite professor and why?
One of my favorite professors is Norman Taber, he was one of my graphic design professors. He made everything more fun and interesting, while teaching and helping us with our design skills.

Hometown: Castleton, Vermont
Major: Nursing
Year: Junior
Campus Activities: Member of SNAPS (Student Nursing Association Plattsburgh State), Member of the National Honor Society Phi Eta Sigma, intramural basketball, former member of the SUNY Plattsburgh Service Corps, former member of Dance Corps
What is great or unique about your major? My major is unique because we learn critical thinking skills as well as clinical skills that we need to provide to our patients.  As student nurses we can apply all of these skills together during our clinical experience which is an excellent learning method.  We take care of patients in the hospital, which is an experience in itself.  Nursing is a caring and rewarding major—the four years are going by too fast, but they are some of the best years I will always remember.
Who is your favorite professor and why? Way back in my first semester at Plattsburgh I took Chemistry 101, and I was nervous because I was never great at chemistry and the teachers I had in high school were horrible.  Tom Moffett was the professor of that class and he made all of my chemistry fears go away because he explained everything very well.  He made me realize that having a great teacher can make a person learn, strive, and succeed by listening to him and working hard! I was not afraid of science or chemistry after that class, and I’m pretty sure most of my classmates felt the same way!

Campus Activities: Executive Producer of PSTV (Plattsburgh State Television) , Play by Play Commentator for Cardinals Hockey.
What is great or unique about your major? When I came for Open House I was taken into the Television and Audio departments.  The students were very enthusiastic about what they did.  I learned that I could get involved my first semester.  After seeing the quality of their work and the experience they had, I knew this was the right major for me.
Most memorable experience from your major: My favorite experience was in the Fall of 2008 when I worked for CNN through my program's internship department. The network needed to shoot up in the surrounding area and they called SUNY Plattsburgh for a couple of students to work on the crew. My professor asked me if I wanted to get involved. It was the best experience I have had here. Nothing beats the real world experience.
Who is your favorite professor and why? I really can't pinpoint a specific teacher because they all compliment each other so well. Their variety of field and work experience mesh well and help form a great understanding of the subject matter.

Times this by 10 and go further in depth and that is Mental Health Counseling. I want to help people and this was just the perfect program to help me do those.
Who is your favorite professor and why?
I am very fond of all the professors, but the professor I am most close with is Dr. Katherine Dunham. She was my research and internship supervisor so we worked together closely but she also got to know me on a personal level, believed in me and really helped me out with my academic goals.

Currently, I am taking part in the Miner Applied Environmental Science Program. I live with all environmental science students at the William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute in Chazy (about 20 minutes north of campus). Five classes are offered – one for each day of the week. I attend a 2 – 3 hour lecture in the morning and then spend my entire afternoon doing research, completing an independent study, working in the field, or doing laboratory exercises. It’s an awesome hands-on experience that allows me to get to know my professors and fellow students really well.
Who is your favorite professor and why? My Advisor, Dr. Donald Bogucki is always challenging me to do things that I may not have considered on my own. He helped me get my first internship (I did wetlands delineation for the Adirondack Park Agency) and taught some of the hardest classes I have taken at SUNY Plattsburgh. Overall, he really cares about my future and my success as a student and after I graduate.
