Hey there! My name is Jessica Fish and I am a Freshman Admissions Advisor at SUNY Plattsburgh. I manage a prospective student Facebook page  that gives high school seniors and transfer students a chance to ask questions, view exclusive videos/pictures and connect with each other before deciding to enroll. I also coordinate a high-ability visitation program called Scholars Weekend each spring. In addition, I interview prospective students, conduct presentations, review freshman applications and recruit primarily in the Albany/Connecticut area. Hometown: Plattsburgh, NY

Professional/Personal Biography: A native of Plattsburgh, I graduated high school locally from Beekmantown Central School in 2003. In 2007, I graduated from Ithaca College with a B.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications and minors in Speech Communication and Women's Studies. Shortly after beginning my tenure at SUNY Plattsburgh, I began pursuing an M.S in Leadership part-time and hope to complete the degree by 2013. Now that I’ve been a member of the admissions team for four years, I can honestly say that there is no other place I’d rather be! Plattsburgh is a one-of-a-kind place that I am proud to call home and will be proud to call my alma mater in a few years!

When I am not working, I am enjoying life as a newlywed and spend a lot of time with my husband, our families and our closest friends!

Most Memorable College Experience: Choreographing and dancing in IC Unbound, my college’s dance company. I literally tried everything from hip hop to Irish clogging! I learned so many styles of expression, truly tested my creativity and met most of my best friends in the process.

Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh Activity: Honestly, I like them all! Whether it’s watching the Cardinalette Kickline Team perform or participating in Relay for Life, just being around the students and their energy is a blast! The campus community has such a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere and the students are so full of passion and excitement that any activity they host will undoubtedly draw you in!

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: Number one: Step out of the box! Do something you've always wanted to do but never got the chance to try. You'll learn something about yourself and possibly discover a new passion. Number two: Get to know your professors! They can help guide you in the right direction academically and professionally and are true sources of inspiration and wisdom. Number three: Be proactive! SUNY Plattsburgh has a plethora of resources that are here to help you succeed, so take advantage and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
