- About Plattsburgh
When I'm on campus I help out by reviewing applications, teach a first-year experience course and work with the staff on orientation activities for incoming students. When I'm off campus I travel on recruitment trips around the globe to create an interesting and diverse mix of international students that will attend SUNY Plattsburgh.
Academic Credentials: B.A. French and Global Studies, Ripon College (Ripon, WI); M.A. French Civilization, Middlebury College (Middlebury, VT and Paris, France)
Personal Biography: I spent my childhood in southern Mississippi so it was quite a shock to my family and friends when I decided to go to college in Wisconsin! After I finished my undergraduate studies I went to live in France for a little over two years. During this time I taught English and completed my graduate degree. That's when I decided it was time to come back to the US. I went to Connecticut where I worked with my best friend and then found a wonderful opportunity to experience Boston, Massachusetts! You would be amazed by how quickly 3 1/2 years went by! In late 2006 I was offered a new challenge and chose to make Plattsburgh my home.
Places I have visited: Since the age of four travel has been a passion of mine. I have visited nearly 40 countries, but I find that there's always something interesting to discover. I love Scotland, England, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Thailand just to name a few. What excites me is thinking of where I wish to go next! I hope to visit Australia and New Zealand in the near future, but then there's Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia...
Favorite SUNY Plattsburgh activity: Plattsburgh is an interesting place to discover. Sure, it's not a huge city, but there are lots of great little restaurants, coffee houses and other shops to visit. When the weather is nice I like to read out under the trees and enjoy the fresh air.
Best advice for prospective international students: Be open to change! Whether you've traveled a lot or this is your first time away from home you will probably encounter a few challenges as you adjust to life in upstate New York. If you take the time to embrace what this region of the country has to offer you'll be amazed at what you find! There are some interesting activities you can do whether you are an avid sports fan, serious shopper or just really relaxed and calm.
