Returning Student Information

Welcome back! Returning back to campus from a study abroad experience can be an exciting, challenging time. You can expect to go through some degree of culture shock as you get back into the same old routines with a new, more global perspective on your world. You may find that you have many more stories to tell than your friends want to sit and listen to. In that case, come in to our office and tell us! We love hearing about your travels because it helps us inform students who want to follow in your footsteps.

We have several opportunities for returning study abroad students to share their experiences with other students. We invite and encourage you to participate in our study abroad fairs and classroom presentations to students who might want to go abroad. You can also pick your favorite snapshots and participate in our returning student photo contest. Another great way to stay connected is to visit the Office of International Student Services to see if there are any international students studying at SUNY Plattsburgh from your country of interest.

When Will My Transcript Arrive?

Most schools abroad are not as timely with posting grades as our students expect. For one thing, your grades are first posted at your host institution, and then travel back to your home school in the U.S. where your registrar processes them to become part of your official academic record. The bottom line is this: patience is required! If you have difficulty registering for future classes because your study abroad coursework does not show up on your record, please contact our office for assistance.

How Can I Stay Involved With Study Abroad Now That I Am Back On Campus?

As a returning study abroad student, you are the best source of information for someone thinking about going abroad. We love to have our returning students help us spread the word about how incredibly life changing this experience is. Here are some of the things you can stay involved with us after returning:

• Apply for a work-study position in our office (1 or 2 each semester).
• Tell your story and promote study abroad at an information session or in-class presentation.
• Submit a personal profile and photos for use in promotional material.
• Post on our Facebook page and meet other students who are going or returning from your host country.
• Volunteer as a conversation partner for an international student learning English.
• Participate in International Education Week events (every November).

The possibilities are endless. Email us if you are interested in finding out ways you can share your enthusiasm with others.
