University of Deusto Semester Program

Why Deusto?

With its thriving Basque culture, gorgeous setting, and stunning architecture, a semester in Bilbao will provide you with the best that Spain has to offer.

  • Terms: Fall (September-December) and spring (January-May).
  • Eligibility: Open to all students currently enrolled in a U.S. college or university; minimum 2.8 GPA; minimum junior standing by the time of study.
  • Credits: 12+ undergraduate.
  • Application deadline: April 15 for fall, October 1 for spring.  All application materials must be received or postmarked by the deadline.

How to Apply

You must submit the SUNY Application to the Global Education Office by the deadline given in the above section. If your application is accepted we will provide a link to complete the Deusto application online.

Courses at Deusto

Students interested in business and social sciences will find many courses offered at this prestigious university, including options taught in English. Those interested in studying Spanish will also find a variety of language courses and content courses taught in Spanish. In addition, Deusto offers many field study and internship opportunities for study abroad students that have a strong Spanish language ability. Semester schedules are customized based on student interest and typically students choose courses from either the Language and Culture Program or the Business and International Relations Program.

Internships

Internship options are available as part of the semester study abroad program for students with a strong Spanish language background. An internship typically takes the place of one class. Please contact Study Abroad and Exchanges to find out what options are available in your field of interest.

Accommodations

You may choose between living in Deusto's residence halls, an apartment, or with a host family that the University of Deusto selects. All options are subject to availability. You can find more information on Deusto’s website.

Location

Bilbao has one of the cleanest and most efficient metro systems in Europe. In just forty minutes the visitor can travel from downtown Bilbao to the nearby lush green Basque coast. Transportation is easy and affordable in Spain. The location of Bilbao is a major plus, since the Cote Basque in Southern France in just about an hour from Bilbao. World-class tourist sites like Biarritz, San Sebastian and Pamplona are close by. The Basque Country is famous for the high quality of its food and unique culture.
