Background

Dr. Gleeson-Kreig brings a wide variety of experience in nursing to her current role as an educator. During her over 20 years in nursing practice, she has worked in settings ranging from intensive care to pediatrics to home care. Much of her work has centered around chronic illness and helping people make lifestyle change to promote wellness. She has recently taken an increased interest in mental health care, particularly as it affects the veteran population. Dr. Gleeson-Kreig has educated future nurses for over 15 years at SUNY Plattsburgh and has served in the chairperson role since 2008.

Academic Philosophy

“I have learned a great deal about teaching and learning over the course of my career as an educator. I think students have taught me as much as I have taught them! I believe that a teacher has to make it real, make the learning come alive and I strive to do that. I appreciate the opportunity to share my stories from nursing in a genuine interaction in the classroom. I like to make students think about the information and work to see the meaning. In my work as Chairperson I like to face challenges, and I try to bring this excitement about solving problems to my teaching.”
