Adjunct LecturerJennifer Meschinelli is the special publications editor at the Press-Republican, Plattsburgh's daily newspaper. As special sections editor, she oversees planning, production and editing of several monthly and annual publications, and has also started up three magazines.
A graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, she was the editor-in-chief of Cardinal Points, during which she incorporated the newspaper as an independent, non-profit corporation. Upon graduation she became a beat reporter in Lake Placid, where she quickly moved from daily reporter, to city editor to editor of the small weekly paper, The Lake Placid News.
Meschinelli is unique, in that she spent the next five years working in marketing, then sales, which showed her the other side of publishing — the side that generates income. As a sales supervisor for TransWestern Publishing, now Yellowbook, she was a field trainer for incoming sales representatives. She has currently brought this knowledge to the Journalism Department as advisor to the print All Points North magazine on campus.
She has held her current position at the Press-Republican for five years. While working full-time at the Press-Republican and teaching part-time at SUNY Plattsburgh, she is also pursuing a master's degree in Leadership Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh. In her “spare time,” she is a founding partner of the Imaginarium Children's Museum in Plattsburgh.
