"The Institute," as we've come to call it, is structured around a commitment to cutting-edge information and, of course, fun.

As a part of our educational mission, "The Institute" offers education in all kinds of formats, from intentional to accidental, from formal instruction to serendipitous meetings.

Who Can Participate?

The Lake Champlain Sea Kayaking Institute is open to everyone - Plattsburgh State students and the public alike.

We now offer two levels of instruction, so you can find the level of information and challenge appropriate to your background and goals.

Level I: For new paddlers or those with limited technical knowledge, this course has it all! Wet and dry entries and exits; self and assisted rescues, sweeps, draws, and rudder strokes; rolling-these and more are part of this four-day class. If that isn't enough, there are daily trips to Lake Champlain's beaches, islands, and bays.

Level II: This program is specifically designed for alumnae of our 4-day program or those with considerable technical knowledge or experience. This four day program answers the question, "How do I do it better?" Join the staff for daily paddles and instruction focused on efficiency and precision.

If you're new to the sport, we will train you and teach you the skills you need to pursue kayaking on your own. If you are an experienced paddler, join us to learn new techniques or refine old ones.
