Remember that bumper sticker? Our job in Literacy Education at SUNY Plattsburgh is to prepare teachers with the skills and strategies they need in order to help learners of all ages to read, write, and use all of the language arts effectively.
We offer courses to help undergraduate education majors incorporate literacy instruction into their content areas at the elementary, middle, or secondary level.
A graduate program is available for certified teachers who wish to gain expertise and certification in Literacy, Birth-Grade 6 or Literacy, Grades 5-12.
In addition, our Literacy Education Center (in Sibley Hall, Room 332) provides teacher-candidates with books, games, and other resources that they may use in their classes. Our graduate students use the Literacy Education Center for tutoring experiences with children.
