Master Control

Broadcast On and Off Campus & Reach a Large Audience

Master Control is the heart of the TV and Video facility and the broadcast center for Plattsburgh State Television. It is used for DVD creation, tape and programming transfer, and regional TV broadcasting where it reaches over 5,000 students on Campus Channel 10, and over 30,000 homes in Clinton and Essex counties on Charter Cable Channel 17.

During the semester Master Control is busy with evening broadcasts of PSTV (about 30 hours per week) and a daytime/early morning broadcast of the college's community service bulletin board (roughly 140 hours per week).

The Master Control Room (MCR) houses:

  • A Compix Media graphics/character generator.
  • Video switchers for broadcasting.
  • Various time-based correctors (TBC's).
  • Record and playback workstations (VTR's).
  • Camera control units (CCU's).
  • Community service bulletin board workstation.
  • DVD burning workstations.
  • Video terminal equipment (i.e. color bar- and sync-generators).
  • Production research computer (for PSTV management).
