Clintonville Forge Project - Location of Stone Archway

Field Notes:

Located in the south wall of the west bellows house.

The archway was found to have vertical sides, and an opening width of 6 ft. The excavation was made difficult by ground water seepage at a depth of 5 ft, along with a mass of timbers and large fallen wall rocks. Continued excavation was possible only in small pockets down to a depth of 6 1/2 ft, but the floor of the archway could not be determined.
