Sea Kayaking
Sea kayaking courses are about more than paddling a boat. This discipline is about making decisions in the dynamic setting of water. Whether you are learning management and access policies and protocols, interpreting tides for an ocean trip, or planning an extended kayak expedition, the sea kayak curriculum will prepare you fully.
Knowing What You Don't Know
Our first courses prepare you for basic paddling by introducing you to a set of standard strokes for propulsion and direction-change, plus a considerable quiver of rescue techniques. By the end of the first two courses, you should have a foundation of skills and a basis for asking the questions that will make you safer and more efficient.
Now the rest of the curriculum kicks in. In order to become proficient and independent as a paddler, you must first have a foundation in and then an exposure to the skills and ideas that define the standard approaches. When you understand the traditions, you'll be ready to add your own ideas into the mix.
The end of the process is knowing what you can do, understanding your limits, and having the tools to adapt and make decisions on the water as new circumstances arise.
