ADX Internships
From Research to Rock Climbing
The Adirondack Experience works with a number of kayak guide services to offer summer internship possibilities for qualified students. These can be highly educational experiences and offer the rare opportunity to gain experience in a professional setting while still an undergraduate.

New Lands Trust InternshipsThe New Lands Trust, founded in 1977 by former Plattsburgh State students and their friends, manages 260 acres approximately 20 miles west of campus. The Trust's mission is to practice and promote ecological conservation, environmental education, and earth-based consciousness. Of a variety of available Trust internships, ADX is offering one in "Ski Trail Construction" and one in "Recreational Bird Trail Operations." Both internships involve the design, construction, and maintenance and monitoring of the trail projects. |

Trailblazers InternshipsTrailblazers is an adventure-based prevention program based in the central Adirondacks. The program combines outdoor programming (including rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, and other activities) with an aim to prevent the onset of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use in participants. It does this by building individual self-esteem through participation in adventure activities. Interns participate in Trailblazer outings for canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, and skiing, depending on the season. |

Northern Forest Canoe Trail InternshipsThe Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 740-mile water trail from Old Forge, New York to Fort Kent, Maine. Internships focus on the Saranac Lake to Plattsburgh segment. Interns are involved in identifying, mapping, promoting, and researching the trail. Sample projects include identifying and arranging for campsites on both public and private lands, researching property ownership at access points, taking inventory of native and invasive plant species, and completing a business and services marketing inventory. |
