Karen began her role in Recreation at Plattsburgh State in 2014 following almost 25 years of service patrolling the sidelines as the head women’s soccer coach at Plattsburgh State. Originally from Binghamton, N.Y., Waterbury exited her head coaching position as one of the winningest NCAA Division III women’s soccer coaches of all time. During her time as a coach, she racked up a record of 279-164-33 (.621 winning percentage) and led three of her Plattsburgh State squads to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament. Prior to her days as the Cardinals’ head coach, Waterbury played soccer at Plattsburgh State and earned her bachelor’s degree in business marketing before graduating with a master’s degree in physical education from Ithaca College in 1989.
Waterbury is a certified American Red Cross instructor as well as Instructor Trainer in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, a waterfront Lifeguard, Instructor and Instructor Trainer and Water Safety Instructor and Instructor Trainer and is a certified pool operator. An active outdoor enthusiast, Waterbury enjoys biking, hiking, boating and tennis.
Karen is married to Chris Waterbury, the head men’s soccer coach at Plattsburgh State. The two make their home in Plattsburgh and have two children – Bailey (21), who will be a senior on the Oswego State women’s soccer team in 2015-16, and Ryan (18).

Matt Salvatore, Fitness Center Director, manages all operational aspects of the college’s comprehensive Fitness Center and Climbing Wall Programs. A 1990 graduate of SUNY Brockport, Salvatore received his BS in Physical Education, with a concentration in exercise physiology and adult fitness. He received his MA in Leadership and Administration with a concentration in Management from Plattsburgh State University in 2002. Prior to his appointment in 1994 as SUNY Plattsburgh Fitness Center Director, Matt was a fitness specialist at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY.
Matt is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is certified as a Personal Trainer with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). He is AED, CPR, and First Aid certified as well. He is additionally certified to instruct Spinning classes. Matt teaches classes within the Fitness and Wellness Leadership Major and Personal Trainer Minor in both the classroom and web environment. He also serves as a site supervisor for student interns completing their Personal Training minor requirements. In the fall of 2013, he will be assisting with the recreational sports program with intramurals and recreational hours in Memorial and Sibley.

Earned her BS in Physical Education at SUNY Brockport and MS in Exercise Science at SUNY Cortland. She started at SUNY Plattsburgh as Assistant Fitness Center Director in 2008. In addition she teaches PED271, PED333, is an academic advisor for the Fitness & Wellness Leadership major and serves as advisor for Kickline. In the fall of 2013, she will be assisting with the recreational sports program with intramurals and recreational hours in Memorial and Sibley. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, basketball and softball.

Polina is a junior Global Supply Chain Management and Management Information Systems major from Rockland County, NY. She works as a lifeguard year round and is excited to be working as a head lifeguard this year. Polina be teaching the non-credit lifeguarding courses, working with the AED program and supervising the lifeguards.
Matt is a sophomore Physics Engineering major from Albany, NY. He enjoys fishing with the Plattsburgh State fishing club. Matt will be supervising and training the staff in Memorial Hall gym and equipment issue room.
Will be working with intramural teams and officials to provide a great program for everyone who participates.
Anthony is a sophomore childhood education major. He is extremely excited to teach swimming and water safety to children in the youth learn to swim program. Anthony will also be working as an instructor in the CPR lab. He is an American Red Cross certified lifeguard and lifeguard trainer.
