About EOP

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides academic, personal and financial support to New York State residents who hold a high school diploma or its equivalent, and who have the academic potential to earn a college degree.  Although EOP applicants do not meet general admissions criteria due to historic academic or economic disadvantage, they demonstrate a high level of personal motivation and are receptive to receiving support.

EOP at SUNY College at Plattsburgh has been providing access to higher education and support to program students since 1969. The program has given thousands of students the opportunity to earn a college degree, which ultimately creates a bright future for individuals, families and communities.

Supporting Students

Student success depends greatly on sufficient support from our program and institution. We are committed to providing the following support to all EOP students:

• Pre-Freshman Summer Institute
• REQUIRED: Academic advising and career planning
• Tutorial assistance
• Writing, reading and math enrichment programs
• A computer lab and tutorial space with evening hours
• Financial assistance beyond the usual financial aid sources

Eligibility and Applications

Eligibility does NOT guarantee admission to EOP.  Students interested in EOP should review eligibility guidelines closely and are encouraged to apply well before the application deadline date.  Many applicants are "eligible" for EOP, but need and interest exceeds program availability.  Our selection process is rigorous and we prioritize students who are historically disadvantaged.  Applicants should be prepared to provide autobiographical information and to participate in a telephone or campus interview.
