A soldier who studied at SUNY Plattsburgh was killed in the line of duty Nov. 3 while serving with the Army in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Dain Venne, of Port Henry, N.Y., was on track to graduate in 2009 but was called to active duty on Sept. 11 of that year. Read more.

Psychology Alumna Involved in Autism Research
Spit, it turns out, may be a great place to look if you want to find out more about autism.
Dr. Alisa Woods, who graduated from Plattsburgh with a degree in psychology and has since returned as a visiting professor, is leading international research that looks for abnormal proteins — she calls them biomarkers — that are more common in the saliva of autistic children. Read more.
Fraternity Takes Home Homecoming Cup
Sigma Tau Gamma took the cup Saturday, Oct. 20. The fraternity won the Homecoming trophy at the tug-of-war over Hawkins Pond.
The event drew more than 100 students, staff and alumni for the reinvention of a tradition from earlier decades. Read more.
Delta Kappa Delta Honors Brothers and Alma Mater with Scholarship and Memorial
Around 40 Delta Kappa Delta fraternity alumni returned to campus this September to give back to their alma mater and to establish a permanent memorial to their brothers.
The ceremony took place on a rainy afternoon beside Hawkins Pond. There members lit candles in remembrance of their brothers who have died and spoke of the history of the fraternity. Read more.
Zombie Threat on Campus Eradicated for Another Year
The Zombie Defense League, which is an officially recognized student organization, hosted the tournament-style Humans vs. Zombies battle from Oct. 22 to Oct. 25. The competition was open to all students, faculty and staff. Read more.
