The Institute on Québec Studies at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh was established in February 2004. Plattsburgh State has a longstanding demonstrated commitment to educating local, regional, national and international communities on Québec Studies. The mission statement of the Institute directly reflects this:
"In recognition of the increasing prominence of Québec in New York, New England and the wider North American community, the Institute on Québec Studies at SUNY College at Plattsburgh serves as the gateway institution for the promotion of Québec Studies in the United States. The Institute is committed to the visible development, expansion and dissemination of Québec Studies among academic, business and government constituents."
Special Opportunities for SUNY Plattsburgh Students
Announcing “Québec Past & Present: The 3rd Annual International and Domestic Colloquium on Québec Studies” - a joint initiative led by the Institute on Québec Studies, SUNY Plattsburgh, and the Eastern Townships Resource Centre, Bishop’s University with support from the Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie, Government of Québec.
Scholarly essay proposals are now being accepted from undergraduate/graduate students and faculty from SUNY Plattsburgh, Bishop’s University and all universities in Québec and across Canada. Priority will be accorded to proposals from SUNY Plattsburgh and Bishop’s University. Proposals encouraged from any academic discipline on any and all topics featuring significant Québec content, in English or French. Proposals must present original research and must not have been previously published. DEADLINE for proposals is Friday, December 8, 2014.
If accepted, contributors will present their scholarly essays at a colloquium to be held March 26-28, 2015 at Bishop's University in Lennoxville, Québec. Support to include transportation, meals and accommodations is available for individuals from SUNY Plattsburgh to participate in the colloquium. Select proceedings will be revised, edited and published as an issue of the Journal of Eastern Townships Studies. Full details on this Call for Papers available for download from here.

Distinguished Fulbright Chair in Québec Studies Lecture: "Upstairs Neighbors: Québec-U.S. Relations and the Impact of 'La Belle Province' on U.S. Elections" by Dr. Frederick Gagnon
Location: Krinovitz Hall, Hawkins Hall with reception immediately to follow at 133 Court Street
Dr. Frederick Gagnon will be in residence at the Institute on Québec Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh until December 2014. Dr. Gagnon was awarded the Distinguished Fulbright Chair in Québec Studies in his position as Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, and Director, Center for United States Studies of the Raoul Dandurand Chair in Strategic and Diplomatic Studies, at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Dr. Gagnon is the author of three books in French on U.S. political institutions; he is one of the few Canadians who have published at CQ Press - the most prestigious publisher on congressional studies; and, in October 2008, he was named "Quebec's foremost expert on American politics" in the newsletter highlighting Fulbright Canada's alumni.
