'Death of a Salesman' Staged in Hartman Theatre Oct. 8

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2014) — Pendragon Theatre’s production of "Death of a Salesman" comes to the SUNY Plattsburgh campus Wednesday, Oct. 8 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Hartman Theatre, Myers Fine Arts Building.
The Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning Arthur Miller drama tells the tale of down-on-his-luck salesman Willy Loman and the unraveling of the American Dream. Family tenskons, deferred dreams and unfulfilled lives make up the landscape of this haunting play.
Wellness Fair Planned for Oct. 1 on SUNY Plattsburgh Campus

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2014) — The Center for Student Involvement, SUNY Plattsburgh, is hosting its annual Wellness Fair Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.
Community agencies and campus organizations will be available to answer questions on wellness- and fitness-related topics. In addition to fitness demonstrations and food samples, the event features flu shots provided by the Student Health and Counseling Center — free for students; $20 for faculty and staff. CVPH Medical Center will also be on hand hosting a blood drive.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2014) — Former NFL player and activist Don McPherson will help kick off a new bystander intervention initiative on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus with a talk Monday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.
McPherson will talk about the Step UP! Be a Leader, Make a Difference program, which aims to teach students practical skills for safe intervention on issues such as academic dishonesty, alcohol misuse, and sexual violence, among others. He will speak about the role everyone can play in prevention, intervention, and accountability.
Appreciation Day for Veterans and the Military Being Held Sept. 27

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2014) — SUNY Plattsburgh is hosting a military and veterans’ appreciation day Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Field House.
All veterans, their families and active-duty personnel are invited to attend to learn about healthcare enrollment, benefits information, employment opportunities and community vendors. Refreshments will be available.
Black Student Organization Hosts Culture Event

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2014) — SUNY Plattsburgh’s Black Student Union, AKEBA, will host “Profiting Off Black Culture,” on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Amnesty Room of the Angell College Center.
The event will focus on how black culture has created styles and influences such as “twerking,” rap, and hip-hop, among many others.
New Accessibility Parking Signs Set for SUNY Plattsburgh Campus

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2014) – New accessibility parking signs replacing the word “handicapped” with “reserved parking” will soon be installed on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus.
The 70 signs will display a new, more active image of an individual using a device for mobility designed by the Massachusetts-based Accessible Icon Project.
Readers to Open Covers of Banned Books During Annual Read-Out

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2014) — The annual SUNY Plattsburgh Banned Books Read-Out will be held in the second-floor lobby, Feinberg Library, Wednesday, Sept. 24 from noon to 2 p.m.
“Building on the great success of the last two years, we’ll highlight the issue of ‘freedom to read’ by having faculty, staff and students read from a selection of banned or challenged books from Walt Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass” to Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian,” said Tim Hartnett, associate librarian at Feinberg.
Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir to Perform at Burlington Church

SUNY Plattsburgh College Council to Meet Sept. 29

In addition to the regular reports President John Ettling, Chair Salvatore Graven and committee chairs, the council will hear presentations by Julia Overton-Healy, newly hired director of the Career Development Center, and a year-in-review report by Dr. James Liszka, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Family Weekend Events Planned for SUNY Plattsburgh

The weekend will kick off with a welcome reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Winkel Sculpture Court in the Myers Fine Arts building. The reception will be co-hosted by President John Ettling and members of the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society.
