College Among Best in US News, Other National Rankings

SUNY Plattsburgh has been ranked among “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report for the eighth straight year.

Ranked No. 76 out of all northern regional universities, the college was evaluated based on opinions of administrators at peer institutions, student retention data, faculty resources, admissions selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

This latest recognition adds to a growing number of mentions and rankings by national publications and services which have placed SUNY Plattsburgh high for a range of factors – from affordability and location to services and academic quality.

“National recognition draws well-deserved attention to our campus,” said President John Ettling. “Students, faculty, staff, alumni and other friends who invest in the college are key to our success. Members of our campus community know how special the Plattsburgh experience is and what a difference it makes for a lifetime."

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are some of the most widely publicized in higher education. Recent rankings from other publications and services include:

  • USA Today and College Factual “Best Colleges for the Money”: No. 124 in the nation, 21 in the Middle Atlantic Region. SUNY Plattsburgh scored well in average total degree cost.
  • Affordable Colleges Online “Best Online Colleges”: No. 4 in New York State. The rankings commended the quality and breadth of Plattsburgh’s online class offerings and the faculty’s use of the Moodle system.
  • Washington Monthly “Best Bang for the Buck”: No. 78 in the Northeast. Plattsburgh scored highly with a low net price and a low student loan default rate.
  • “Best Small Town Colleges”: No. 34 in the nation. The rankings praised Plattsburgh for its variety, location and “robust collection of internships that give students real career connections and hands-on experience.”
