What If I need To Change My Session?

Answer: We need you to attend the session you have been assigned to. You will be automatically assigned to attend a session with other students from your geographic area. However, if for some reason that date is not good for you, dependent upon availability, you may choose another session when you register and pay via the MyPlattsburgh Portal. Geographic Breakdown.

Does What Session I Attend Influence What Classes I Can Get?

Answer: SUNY Plattsburgh divides up seats across the 6 sessions equally. This means the students in the 6th session have the same opportunity to register for typical 1st year classes as those in the 1st Session. If you have already chosen a major, your department chair, if necessary, will pre-register you into the classes you must have in your 1st semester.

What Should I Bring With Me?

Answer: Items to consider:

  • Personal items/toiletries, umbrella, fan, rain coat and a light jacket or sweatshirt
  • Students will need to bring their own linens (sheets and towels)
  • Sneakers or athletic shoes will be helpful to have for student activities and walking around campus.
  • Pillows are available but many students and family members tell us their stay is more comfortable with a pillow from home
  • Families have all linen provided.
  • Transfer students, please remember to bring your Degree Works Report with you.

What Should I Know About The Meal Plan For Orientation?

Answer: Here is the breakdown:

Purchasing a meal plan means no hassle: Meal plans are available for adult and sibling family members for $40. When you purchase a meal plan you will be able to simply swipe the meal card we give you to enter the all you can eat dining hall instead of fumbling through your wallet. Just like those VISA commercials! With a meal plan you get: 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, and 1 lunch. Purchasing a meal plan will save you approximately $15 compared to what you would be paying per meal at the door. All meals will be held in the designated dining facility noted in your orientation schedule.

Choosing not to purchase a meal plan? This gives you a little more flexibility to sample local eateries/restaurants instead of eating on campus if you choose to do so. If you opted out of purchasing a meal plan you may still eat in the dining facility but you will have to pay for each meal out of pocket. We would like to mention that your student is required to eat all of their meals on campus in the dining facility.

What If I Cannot Attend Orientation?

Answer: It is very important to attend orientation. By not attending you will miss out on crucial information and opportunities to interact with other first year students. You will not be able to register for your classes until after all of the orientation sessions have ended; at which time the college will contact you to set up your fall schedule. This could limit the availability of some classes for the fall semester. You will be more successful in your first year if you attend orientation. In addition, you will have a lot of fun if you attend!

A listing of students whose housing assignments have been received will be available at your session. You can stop by the Housing Office at 103 Algonquin Hall to check if we have received yours.
