Celebrate Native American Heritage Month

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2014) — Several events will be hosted in Plattsburgh throughout November in honor of Native American Heritage Month.

All events are co-hosted by the SUNY Plattsburgh Anthropology Department, the Anthropology Club and the Multicultural Alliance.

Campus Alert Update

Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, 11 a.m. The Angell College Center and portions of the Myers Fine Arts Building and the Feinberg Library will be closed until at least 2 p.m. Tuesday.

This morning at approximately 9 a.m. Student Affairs staff noticed a sound coming from a mailbox located in the Angell College Center. Police were notified and responded.

Student-run tourism magazine to launch website

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2014) — SUNY Plattsburgh’s All-American student-run print magazine, DoNorth, will launch its website on Oct. 28, 2014. This is the first time the publication will go live on the Web.

The website, donorthmag.com, will run feature stories and articles and photography from each of the publication’s departments: Champlain Taste, Lakeside Canvas, Open Air and Northern Archives. By building the website, the DoNorth staff will also be able to create and share multimedia content alongside stories that appear in the magazine.

SUNY Plattsburgh Campus-Community Forum

SUNY Plattsburgh and the City of Plattsburgh will host a Campus-Community Forum to renew collaborative efforts between the campus and community on Nov. 5 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Newman Center, 90 Broad St.  Members of campus administration, local elected officials, and representatives from campus and city departments will be in attendance. We encourage residents of the city, along with students, to come and engage in a dialog. The evening will have brief remarks from Vice President of Student Affairs Bryan Hartman and Mayor James Calnon.

Trout Unlimited Hosts Anti-dam Movie, Discussion on Plattsburgh Dam Removal

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2014) — A SUNY Plattsburgh screening of the award-winning environmental documentary “DamNation” will held 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

The screening is free and will be followed by a discussion about efforts to remove a dam on nearby Saranac River.

SEFA Celebrates 50 Years

The State Employees Federated Appeal is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The 2014 SEFA Campaign kicks off at SUNY Plattsburgh Thursday, Oct. 23 and will include presentations by John Bernardi, director of the Adirondack United Way; Dr. John Ettling, president of SUNY Plattsburgh; and Carol Bleaux and Cherice Granger, co-chairs of the SEFA Committee. Campaign materials and pledge cards will be distributed at the end of the event.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2014) — The Delta Xi chapter of the Lambda Pi Eta communications honor society will host “The Culture in Technology, or Why, Really, Do We Love Steve Jobs?” Oct. 23 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

Dr. Tom Streeter, chair of the University of Vermont Department of Sociology, will lead an in-depth discussion about Steve Jobs and the way we think of innovation in the modern world.

Homecoming 2014 Offers Weekend of Tradition, Activity and Fun

Homecoming’s signature event, the Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame induction, will take place Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center, where the college will honor Corey Davidson ’01, Keri Duffy ’97, Kelly Duffy-Coryer ’01, and Jim Mihalko ’66. Tickets are available in advance for $20.

'Shine the Light on Domestic Violence' Aims to 'Turn the State Purple' Oct. 15

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2014) — SUNY Plattsburgh will participate in the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence’s “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence” campaign during October.

“SUNY is proud to participate in the “Shine the Light” campaign in downtown Albany and at our 64 campuses throughout New York as we take a united stand against domestic violence,” said Nancy L. Zimpher, chancellor of the State University of New York.
