Guitar Studio and Ensemble Concert Dec. 2

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music presents the 2015 Guitar Studio and Ensemble Concert Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

The concert showcases guitar performances by music majors under the direction of guitar Professor Michael Fratino. The students, performing solo or accompanied by Fratino, will play works from a wide range of genres and styles, covering pop, jazz, classical and world music. The ensemble will perform pieces from Radiohead, Queen, The Strokes and Koji Kondo. 


Masquerade Presidents' Gala Features Dinner, Dancing

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2015) — The 11th-annual SUNY Plattsburgh Presidents’ Gala, featuring a masquerade theme this year, will be held Friday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 11 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.

The semi-formal event includes a buffet-style dinner, dancing and live entertainment. Hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling and Student Association President Kevin Clayton, funds raised are used by the Plattsburgh College Foundation for student scholarships. The event brings in about $3,000 annually.


Jazz Winter Concert Set for Dec. 1

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music presents the 2015 Winter Jazz Concert Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.

The 17-piece big band Plattsburgh State Jazz Ensemble, directed by Herm Matlock, adjunct lecturer in music, will perform works of Tom Kubis, Clark Terry, Charles Mingus and “Sing, Sing, Sing” from the Benny Goodman songbook, featuring student drummer Pat Mancino. Other student soloists include saxophonists Andrew Miller, Brandon Bessette and Huseyin Pekdimir, trumpeter Bill Long and guitarist Nick Agoney. 


SUNY Plattsburgh Wins State Library Archives Award

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Feinberg Library Special Collections and College Archives was recently honored with an award from the New York State Archives and Archives Partnership Trust.

The trust selected the college’s Special Collections and College Archives for the 2015 Annual Archives Award for Program Excellence in a Historical Record Repository. 


Faculty Honored at Celebration of Scholarship Reception

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2015) — Four faculty members were honored during SUNY Plattsburgh’s 14th annual Celebration of Scholarship.

The special program, held Friday, Nov. 13 in the Feinberg Library, featured Dr. Elie Chrysostome, professor of business; Dr. Kathy Grant, associate professor of education; Dr. Bill Pfaff, associate professor of music; and Dr. James Rice, professor of history. 


Student-Led Town Meeting Advances Change, Understanding

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2015) — Creating change and greater understanding on campus was the focus of a Tuesday, Nov. 17 town meeting coordinated by the Educational Opportunity Program Student Association.

Carrying the hashtag #EOPeopleForChange, the evening forum brought more than 200 students, faculty and staff associated with SUNY Plattsburgh EOP and invited guests. The program included a panel discussion focused on how attendees could personally assist the campus community as it works to advance in matters of diversity, social justice and understanding.


Community Forum on Microgrid Proposal Set for Nov.19

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2015) —The viability of a microgrid in the event of a loss of power in the City of Plattsburgh will be among the topics at a community forum set for Thursday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.

All area residents are invited to attend the event, to be held at The University of Vermont Regional Health Network, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Room 1-101. 


Public Relations Group Hosts Networking Event Nov. 17

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2015) — The college’s Public Relations Student Society of America will host a public relations networking event Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center.

The annual #Mullet event, named for the haircut, will include icebreaking games and give participants a chance to mingle with students and professionals. A representative from Northern Adirondack Planned Parenthood will speak about non-profit public relations issues while photographer Dan Hooker will be on hand to take head shots that attendees can use on LinkedIn and other professional platforms. 


'Night of Nations' Program Set for E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2015) — About 160 students will perform on Saturday, Nov. 14 at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Night of Nations.

Carrying the theme “Away We Go,” the large-scale event showcases contemporary and traditional performance art from around the world. 


Symphonic Band Performs Poetry-inspired Works at Nov. 17 Concert

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2015) —The SUNY Plattsburgh Symphonic Band will perform “Poetry in Music” Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.

The program includes works inspired by poetry. The 35-piece ensemble, directed by Professor of Music Daniel Gordon, comprises SUNY Plattsburgh students and community members.
