Athletic Director Bruce Delventhal to Retire in January

Bruce DelventhalPLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 29, 2015) – Following a decade of service to SUNY Plattsburgh as the Cardinals’ director of athletics, Bruce Delventhal has announced his decision to retire on Jan.1, 2016.

“It has been an honor to be the athletic director at SUNY Plattsburgh for the past 10 years,” Delventhal said. “I have been fortunate to work with a terrific coaching staff and wonderful student-athletes who have represented their teams, the college and the community in the very best possible manner. It is impossible to properly express my thanks and admiration for the efforts of our students and their coaches. My pride in SUNY Plattsburgh intercollegiate athletics is beyond words.”

SUNY Plattsburgh College Council Holds Annual Summer Meeting

PLATTSBURGH (July 23, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh College Council will conduct its next meeting as part of an annual retreat Monday, July 27, in the Valcour Educational Conference Center, 3712 State Route 9 in Peru.

SUNY Plattsburgh Appoints New Title IX Coordinator

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 16, 2015) — Butterfly Blaise, SUNY Plattsburgh adjunct lecturer in the gender and woman studies program, was appointed the college’s Title IX coordinator.

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in schools that receive federal funding. Often considered the equalizer in athletics programming, the law also protects all campus constituents — students, faculty and staff.

SUNY Plattsburgh Announces Spring 2015 Dean's List

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 15, 2015) — SUNY Plattsburgh has released the names of students who made the college’s dean’s list for spring 2015.

To be eligible, undergraduate students must achieve a minimum 3.5 semester grade point average with at least 12 credit hours. Part-time, matriculated students are also eligible for the dean’s list after accruing 12 credit hours consecutively and achieving a minimum 3.5 grade point average. These credits may be accumulated in more than one semester. Pass/fail credits do not count.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 14, 2015) — SUNY Plattsburgh Departments of Music and Modern Languages and Cultures present “The Blue Hour: An Evening of Poetry and Music” 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in the Myers Lobby Gallery in Myers Fine Arts Building.

The program includes original works of poetry by Dr. Jürgen Kleist, SUNY Plattsburgh professor of modern languages and culture, read by history professor Dr. Vincent Carey with accompaniment by soprano Jo Ellen Miano, associate professor of music, and pianist Jun Matsuo.

SUNY Plattsburgh Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa Recognized

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 9, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Circle Omicron Delta Kappa was granted superior circle status from the national ODK organization.

This award is presented to ODK chapters that meet all Circle of Distinction criteria and that sponsor at least two substantial campuswide programs, said Michael Cashman, assistant director of the Center for Student Involvement and faculty secretary of the Plattsburgh ODK chapter.

10th Annual 'Ride to Remember' Benefits Alzheimer's Disease Center, Third Age Centers

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 5, 2015) — The 10th annual motorcycle “Ride to Remember” held in honor of Barbara Tobin is set for Saturday, July 11. The event begins with 9 a.m. registration at American Legion Post 1619, 219 Rand Hill Road in Morrisonville.

The event is held rain or shine with all proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center and the Third Age Adult Day Centers in Plattsburgh, Malone and Elizabethtown. Riders will leave Post 1619 at 10:30 a.m. and return around 1 p.m. where entertainment by Left Hand Black and Paid Company, food, raffles and an auction will begin about 1:30 p.m.

Feed the Bird Fundraising Campaign Exceeds Goals

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.  (July 1, 2015) — SUNY Plattsburgh’s Feed the Bird fundraising campaign, which ended June 30 at midnight with the close of the fiscal year, has received gifts from 4,108 alumni donors.

By surpassing its goal of 4,000, the campaign also secured a $50,000 gift from alumni Susan ’72 and David ’72 Zebro.

Girls Summer Basketball Camp Opens July 6

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.  (June 30, 2015) — The Cardinal Hoops Summer Basketball Camp for girls is slated to begin Monday, July 6 and run through the Friday, July 10.

Camp leaders include Cardinal women’s basketball Head Coach Cheryl Cole and Assistant Coach Ben Sarraf. Current members of the team will serve as instructors, with participants developing their skills and improving in the fundamentals of the game.
