Internships

The psychology internship program offers students practical experience in psychology in field settings. We offer a wide variety of placements working with children, adolescents, and adults. Students can use this opportunity both to gain worthwhile real-world experience and to explore different career options within the field of psychology. The internship experience facilitates informed career decisions, and provides relevant experience for either graduate school or employment after graduation.

Placements — Main Campus

The placements that are available for undergraduate psychology majors are numerous and quite diverse. Some examples of our many placements include:

• Education and Sexual Assault Services of Planned Parenthood of the North Country
• Clinton County Department of Social Services
• Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital mental health inpatient units
• Local elementary, middle, and high schools
• Nexus social competence program for children with Asperger syndrome and high-functioning autism
• Clinton Correctional Facility
• Clinton County Probation Department
• Advocacy and Resource Center for developmentally disabled adults
• Meadowbrook Nursing Home
• Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center
• Parent Aide Program
• Stop Domestic Violence
• Champlain Valley Family Center for substance abusers
• Violence Intervention Project

Placements — Queensbury Campus

• WAIT House Homeless Youth Shelter
• Voices of the Heart — services for individuals with psychiatric problems
• Catholic Charities — domestic violence project
• Bus Stop Club for siblings of children with disabilities

Eligibility

Students must apply for the internship and meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Minimum 2.5 GPA (cumulative and psychology major GPA)

• Junior or senior standing.
• Permission of the internship coordinator, which is based on successful completion of the application, interviews, and faculty recommendations.
