Spectrum Clinics

Our mission is to provide comprehensive lifespan services of the highest quality for people in our community and greater North Country whose lives have been affected by neurologically-based disorders. We merge state-of-the-art empirically-based diagnostic, management, and treatment approaches with the education of undergraduate and graduate students for the purpose of training future generations' professionals. We provide the platform for the interdisciplinary collaborative research for increasing our knowledge about neurological disorders that affect human behavior.

3rd Annual Symposium: Thursday October 25th

Spectrum is excited to announce the Third Annual Interdisciplinary Symposium — A Lecture and Discussion with Dr. Dorothy Pawluch, Associate Professor of Sociology McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, CA. Dr. Pawluch's lecture i Changing Definitions of Difference: Sociological Insights on Medical Labeling and Its Consequences. Please join us on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 6:30–8 p.m. in Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Center

The TBI Center provides services to children who have acquired a traumatic brain injury, as well as to their families. The TBI provides seamless transitions between medical treatment and school/home support in the form of information, counseling, support groups, and advocacy. It also provides technical assistance and education to families, schools, and community agencies.

Neuropsychology Clinic and Psychoeducational Services

This clinic is staffed by a licensed psychologist and a New York state certified School Psychologist. The professional staff complete comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations with children and adults who have cognitive and/or behavioral problems presumed to be related to central nervous system dysfunction or possibly damage either from prenatal or birth complications, genetic inheritance, or acquired brain injury. Psychoeducational evaluations are expected to be offered in the near future.

Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center (ADAC)

The ADAC offers an array of programs and services to support and assist individual with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder as well as their families. Some of these services include: Helpline, Support Groups, Caregiver Resource Center, Education and Training, Safe Return Program. The ADAC provides comprehensive diagnostic assessment, education and support for care giving families, an adult day program, and in-service programming. The ADAC also runs the Mood and Memory Clinic. This program is designed to offer a comprehensive assessment of clients' mood and affect that might be associated with various episodes of affective disorders, as well as the underlying cognitive causes of affective disorders. The program also assesses various types of memory impairment caused by dementia, as well as non dementia related disorders.

The ADAC's hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed from noon to 1 p.m.) The Mood and Memory Clinic operates Mondays and Wednesdays of each week. Nexus: A Social Competence Program for Children with Asperger Syndrome

Nexus is a structured after-school program that meets weekly from 3-5 p.m. on the campus of Plattsburgh State. Graduate and undergraduate psychology students, as well as volunteer professionals from community schools, work under the supervision of Dr. Pat Egan to teach social skills and self-management strategies to Nexus participants. The program serves up to 30 students ages 5 through 16 years old with diagnoses of Asperger Syndrome or related disorders.
