This 37 credit program requires 4 Foundations courses (12 credits) including PHI 102 Introduction to Philosophy, PHI 210 History of Western Philosophy to 1500, PHI 211 History of Western Philosophy from the 1500s, and PHI 213 Symbolic Logic.
To complete the major students choose a concentration of courses in theoretical and applied ethics, or social and political philosophy (25 credits).
Students must complete a PHI course designated to fulfill the college wide Advanced Writing Requirement (AWR). This requirement may be satisfied by taking any philosophy department AWR designated course for 4 credits—see the master schedule each semester.
Internship or practicum requirement—this 3 credit requirement for the ethics and social philosophy study option is designed to bridge the gap between an academic course of study and the professional and public domain where issues of ethics and public policy emerge in a multiplicity of ways in real-world settings. Students may choose a practicum site according to their interests after consultation with an advisor.
