The Proficiency Exam is an online proctored exam for the LIB 105 course (it also covers LIB 102). It is offered in Fall and Spring semesters during advising, and in the Summer during Transfer Student Orientation. By passing the Proficiency Exam, you meet the Information and Technology Literacy General Education requirement, but do not receive a credit hour. Consult with your advisor about ways to best make up the loss of this credit hour in your total degree requirements.

You are prepared for the exam if you've done a lot of research in the Feinberg Library, using print and electronic sources, or if you've done significant research at comparable university libraries and are also familiar with Feinberg's specific resources and services. The exam also covers basic concepts and skills in academic computing and software commonly used by students at SUNY Plattsburgh.
You can also prepare by reading the text, Information Literacy & Technology, by Carla J. List. The text is on reserve at the Feinberg Library's second-floor Service Desk and the SUNY Adirondack Library.
