As you create or refine a plan to provide for you or your family's future, and as you think about the charities and organizations you wish to support, we hope you consider including a gift to SUNY Plattsburgh in your estate.
Your planned gift could be the solution to the economic challenges many of our students face while achieving their degree. It may also provide a reliable income stream to you, your spouse or your family during their lifetime(s). You don't have to be extremely wealthy to make a big difference.
You just need a plan for achieving your personal and philanthropic objectives, and we’re here to help you establish that plan..
One of the simplest methods of gift planning is through a bequest or will. You may choose to leave a fixed amount, a certain percentage of your estate or a remainder interest. In addition, you may specify your gift be used to meet the college’s most urgent needs, restrict funds to a specific program, or create an endowment which would generate income in perpetuity for the specified use.
These gifts provide a donor with income for life, while allowing the donor to make a significant gift to the Foundation. Depending on the donor's investments, these gift methods may provide a higher rate of return than the donor is currently receiving. Read more.
Naming the foundation as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy is another very simple method of gift planning. Should you designate the foundation as the beneficiary and also transfer ownership of the policy to the foundation, it is possible to receive a charitable deduction for the fully-funded policy.
Gifts of retirement plans are becoming more popular as IRAs, 401(k) plans and other retirement plan options grow in number. In accordance with current laws and tax regulations, you could designate the foundation as the recipient of funds remaining at the end of your or your family member’s lifetime.
Endowments are funds established by alumni, groups of alumni and friends of the college in honor or memory of an individual. Managed by the Plattsburgh College Foundation, these gifts live on in perpetuity, benefitting many generations of SUNY Plattsburgh students. Read more.
Heritage Society members are some of the college’s leading benefactors; they invest in future generations of students through wills, insurance policies, annuities, charitable trusts or permanent endowments. The Heritage Society recognizes individuals who have made planned giving commitments or established an endowment.
