Are interviews required for transfer applicants?

Interviews are not required for admission, but they are strongly encouraged. A visit is one of the best ways to learn about the opportunities available at SUNY Plattsburgh. Often, transfer students have questions about their credit evaluation and their majors. Some students also schedule visits with the chairpersons of their academic departments.

2.75 GPA - Combined BA/MST Adolescence Education Programs, Combined BS/MSED Childhood/Special Education Program, and Childhood Education

2.50 GPA - Communication Disorders and Sciences, Nursing (RN-to-BS online option), Nutrition, Social Work, and Fitness & Wellness Leadership

How many credits do I need to complete to transfer?

SUNY Plattsburgh does not require a minimum number of credits to be considered for admission. However, to be based on the merits of your college coursework alone, you must have competed approximately 24-30 credits at the time of admission. Students who apply with fewer than 24 credits completed will need to submit high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores.

Will my credits transfer?

If you are transferring from an accredited college, you should not have trouble transferring your college credits. However, we do not transfer credit from technical subjects, like automotive repair, construction technology, or secretarial courses. Once a transfer course is accepted, the course is placed based upon its content, its level, and if it has the appropriate prerequisites. Credit evaluations are completed during the admissions process.

Is on-campus housing available for transfer students

As long as you complete the online housing application by the recommended deadline for the fall and the spring, then on-campus housing is generally available for transfer students. While housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, we have plenty of dorm room available to accommodate our students, and no preferential treatment is given to freshmen over transfer students. If you do have preferences for your housing situation, we recommend that you apply for housing early.

(Return to top of page)

Are there specific residence halls for transfer students?

No, we do not have residence halls specifically for transfer students. Instead, transfer students are generally placed with another transfer student or a current SUNY Plattsburgh student of sophomore-level or higher standing. We do not generally place transfer students in freshman housing.
