Nursing Program at SUNY Plattsburgh

Students practicing on a simulated patient in the Damianos Skill LabNurses are an integral part of the healthcare team assuring front-line safety and quality care. Nurses are advocates, educators, and counselors, in addition to providing direct client care.

Mission Statement

We prepare students to become excellent professional nurses capable of meeting the dynamic health care needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities.

Programs of Study

SUNY Plattsburgh has two nursing programs. The first is for individuals who wish to become registered nurses (RNs). This program takes approximately four years of full-time study. The second program is for registered nurses who wish to continue their education. Both programs lead to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

We value:

  • Mutual respect, collaboration, and support within the learning environment;
  • Service and leadership through a commitment to academic excellence, ethical values, social justice, and responsible citizenship; and
  • The highest standards of integrity and accountability for holistic, collaborative nursing practice.

The goals of the program are to:

  1. Provide progressive academic programs that are responsive to trends in healthcare and advance professional nursing;
  2. Develop local, national, and international partnerships to promote mission and goals;
  3. Engage in healthcare policy formation founded in principles of social justice;
  4. Promote a supportive collegial environment that encourages excellence and innovation in teaching/learning, professional development, and faculty scholarship; and,
  5. Acquire and effectively manage resources to support the work of faculty, staff, and students.
