Department of Music Presents Sinfonia Chamber Ensemble Concert

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 5, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music presents the Sinfonia Chamber Ensemble Thursday, May 7, 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.

The concert will feature student soloist Gabrielle Beauregard in Antonio Vivaldi’s “Spring.”Beauregard, a senior studying music and magazine journalism, will perform for the occasion on a V. Richelieu violin loaned to her by the Burlington Violin Shop. She previously acted as the ensemble’s concertmaster and principal second violinist.

Nursing to Host Celebration of Scholarship

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 5, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Nursing and members of the Sigma Theta Tau Gamma Delta nursing honor society will present the Celebration of Nursing Scholarship May 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.

Nurses and students within the nursing department will display posters and results of various research projects.

Police Surrender Donuts for Good Crosswalk Behavior

PLATTSBURGH N.Y. (May 1, 2014) — Stop. Look. Wave. Get a donut.

University Police are rewarding good crosswalk behavior with good eats over the next few weeks. Officer Bob Light, a member of CrossSTEP, the committee launched to raise awareness of campus traffic and crosswalk safety, will be monitoring Rugar Street crosswalks. Pedestrians whom he witnesses entering correctly will receive coupons for a free Tim Hortons donut or cup of coffee.

Million Can Redemption Plan Enters Final Weekend

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 1, 2015) — The Ted K. Million Can Redemption Plan, a campaign led by public relations students to collect and redeem bottles and cans to benefit Plattsburgh’s Ted K. Community Center, is entering its final weekend.

Students in the campaign invite campus and community members to donate redeemables by Tuesday, May 5.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 30, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music presents the 39th annual SUNY Plattsburgh Jazz Festival Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.

The concert will feature the SUNY Plattsburgh Jazz Ensemble and the Zip City Blues Band performing a repertoire ranging from Chicago-style blues to Duke Ellington swing.

Lifeguard Training Renewal Program To Be Held in Memorial Hall

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 30, 2015) — SUNY Plattsburgh Recreational Sports will host a noncredit lifeguarding and waterfront training renewal program Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

The program is open to certified lifeguards who wish to renew their certification in lifeguard, waterfront and first-aid training and CPR/AED for Professional Rescue.

Kent and Jackson State Memorial Ceremony May 5

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 29, 2015) — The SUNY Plattsburgh Student Association is hosting the 45th commemorative ceremony honoring Kent State and Jackson State Tuesday, May 5 beginning at 12:15 p.m. on the front lawn of Kehoe Administration Building.

The ceremony honors those college students at Kent and Jackson State who were killed in May 1970 during anti-war and racism protests. SUNY Plattsburgh history professor, Dr. James Lindgren, will speak and the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir will perform during the event. 


'Smallest Freedom Fighter' to Speak on Campus April 30

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 29, 2015) — Cheyenne Webb-Christburg, called “the smallest freedom fighter” by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will speak at a program hosted by the SUNY Plattsburgh Multicultural Alliance Thursday, April 30.

The program begins at 6 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center, with a screening of the film, “Selma,” followed at 8 p.m. with Webb-Christburg sharing her experiences in the “Bloody Sunday” march on Selma, Ala., at the age of 8 that led to a lifelong journey advocating for civil rights.

Platty Slack's Slackfest Returns for Third Year

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 28, 2015) — Two springs ago, Platty Slack, SUNY Plattsburgh’s slackline club, hosted one of the largest events for a new club in campus history. Friday May 1, the club’s signature event, Slackfest, returns for the third consecutive year.

Like the previous two, this year’s Slackfest, which will take place from 3 to 7p.m. outside Champlain Valley Hall, features an open workshop for slackliners of all skill levels, a demonstration session, a barbeque and tie-dying. Professional slackliners from Slackline Industries, including Platty Slack founder, Keagan French ’14, will be in attendance from Boulder, Colo., to perform and help with the event.

'The Hunting Ground' Screening to be Held April 23

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 20, 2015) — The Gender and Women’s Studies department will host a free screening of the new documentary, “The Hunting Ground” Thursday, April 23 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Room 200, Yokum Lecture Hall.

From the Academy Award-nominated filmmaking team of Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, “The Hunting Ground” is an expose of rape crimes on U.S. campuses, institutional cover-yups and the toll they take on students and their families.
