Cadillac Moon Ensemble Performs Free Concert April 23

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 15, 2015) — SUNY Plattsburgh Music Department presents “Reworking the Canon,” a free concert of new music performed by Cadillac Moon Ensemble, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23  in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

New York City-based Cadillac Moon Ensemble, featuring Roberta Michel on flute,  Grammy Award-winner Karen Kim on violin, Aminda Asher on cello and Sean Statser on percussion, will include new works commissioned by Cadillac Moon Ensemble by composers, Caleb Burhans, Viet Cuong, Ryan Francis, Osnat Netzer, Kyle Tieman-Straus, and SUNY Plattsburgh Associate Professor of Music Bill Pfaff.

Inaugural 5K Color Run-Walk Set to Benefit Autism Speaks

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 17, 2015) — A 5-kilometer color run-walk to raise funds and awareness of autism is set for May 2 on campus, a first-time event powered by volunteers from the Autism Speaks U SUNY Plattsburgh chapter and the college women’s soccer team.

The event starts with registration at 10 a.m. on the field behind Memorial Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The run-walk begins at 11 a.m. The cost is $5 for students, $7 for faculty/staff and $10 for the general public.

SUNY Plattsburgh Hosts Congresswoman During North Country Visit

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 14, 2015) — Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who represents New York’s 21st Congressional District, stopped by SUNY Plattsburgh April 9 on a whirlwind visit to the North Country. While here, she met with President John Ettling, Jeff Singer, CFO of Eye-In Media (USA),  and others at the Now-to-Next Career Fair,  Dr. Julia Overton-Healy, director of the Career Development Center, and with students in the Student Support Services office.

Stefanik was then inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Circle, SUNY Plattsburgh, as an honoris causa member. 


SUNY Plattsburgh Welcomes Three New University Police Officers

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 10, 2015) — Three university police officers graduated from Zone 9 Basic Police Academy Friday at a ceremony  held in the Rotunda of City Hall in Plattsburgh.

A reception for Jared Booth, Joshua Coons and Ashley Feldt and their families and guests was held at the home of SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling and his wife, Lisa Lewis.

SUNY Plattsburgh Communications Students Win National Awards

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 10, 2015) —Students from SUNY Plattsburgh’s Department of Communication Studies won six national awards at the 73rd National Broadcasting Society conference held in Atlanta March 24-29.

The National Broadcasting Society-Alpha Epsilon Rho is a student-and-professional society with more than 120 chapters that provides enrichment opportunities for those entering television, broadcasting and related fields. Jeffrey Bullins, assistant professor of communications and local NBS chapter adviser, accompanied 17 students to Atlanta. The annual conference allows students to learn from and network with broadcast professionals from across the country.

Days of Remembrance Includes Keynote by Real Estate Company CEO

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 9, 2015) — Norman Radow, CEO of The RADCO Companies, will be the featured speaker at this year’s Days of Remembrance, a secular commemoration of the Holocaust, Thursday, April 16 beginning at 5 p.m. in the Douglas and Evelyne Skopp Holocaust Memorial Gallery, Feinberg Library, SUNY Plattsburgh.

In addition to the featured address, the Douglas R. Skopp Creative Competition on the Theme of the Holocaust will be awarded. Calls went out to SUNY Plattsburgh students earlier in the semester asking for submissions to the contest, which challenges students in all disciplines to submit original works that commemorate the tragedy.

SUNY Plattsburgh Part of New Adirondack Collaboration

(April 7, 2015) — It’s a natural fit: Dr. Eric Leibensperger of SUNY Plattsburgh, Dr. Huiting Mao of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and Dr. James Schwab of the University at Albany live within a couple hundred miles of one another, with the Adirondacks roughly in the middle.

And each conducts research on regional atmospheric chemistry and share concerns about long-term climate change.

Dr. Rowena Ortiz-Walters Selected as Dean of School of Business and Economics

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (March 31, 2015) — The chair of management in the School of Business and Engineering at Quinnipiac University is the new dean of SUNY Plattsburgh’s School of Business and Economics.

Dr. Rowena Ortiz-Walters, a professor of management at the Hamden, Conn., university, accepted the position March 30 with the intent of being on campus this summer.

Holocaust Memorial Centre Trip Informational Meeting Scheduled

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (March 30, 2015) —There will be an informational meeting Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m. in the Amnesty Room, Angell College Center, for students planning on going to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre later this month.

Students must possess valid passports or enhanced drivers licenses and be able to legally travel to Canada and will meet at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 19 for a bus to the centre at 5151 Cote-St. Catherine, Montreal. A $10 fee includes admission and a tour of the museum, a post-tour lecture by a Holocaust survivor who also serves as a docent, and a box lunch catered by Chartwells.

Celebration Event Set for Championship Women's Hockey Team

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (March 30, 2015) — SUNY Plattsburgh's 2014-2015 national championship women's hockey team will be featured at a special celebration reception set for Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m. in Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.

President John Ettling has invited members of the campus and greater Plattsburgh communities to the event. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door beginning at 5:30 p.m. SUNY Plattsburgh students with a valid ID and children 12 and under will be admitted free. Proceeds, including funds from raffles and auction items, will be put toward the cost of national championship rings for the team.
