- About Plattsburgh
If you are curious about science and nature, enjoy working with people, and are interested in working to study and preserve the environment by developing a sustainable future for the Earth, then come learn with us in the Center for Earth and Environmental Science (CEES).
Plattsburgh State established one of the first undergraduate environmental science programs in the U.S.
We offer four degree programs in environmental science. With over 200 students and seventeen faculty members, CEES offers a great diversity of courses with small class sizes.
The center provides students with access to state-of-the-art laboratory and field facilities, including:
Students are encouraged to participate in our Applied Environmental Science Program, an off-campus residential semester at the Miner Institute that prepares students for careers in environmental science. Read more about CEES at Miner Institute.
Many programs limit research to graduate students. CEES provides numerous opportunities for undergraduate students — as well as graduates — to participate in faculty-mentored research projects.

Twelve of our distinguished alumni returned to campus on November 12, 2007 to meet with the freshmen in our Environmental Science Field Immersion course and other students from the Center.
These represent a tiny fraction of the 2,500 alumni of the Center for Earth and Environmental Science who have graduated from our programs since 1972. These alumni were selected to represent a broad range of the many careers available to Center majors.
The twelve alumni shared their reflections on being undergraduates at SUNY Plattsburgh, the opportunities they had in the Center and what students should think about as they pursue their professional careers.
